This photo shows students from the environment committee celebrating the completion of the Park N' Lot on May 19th 2015. Tegvir Singh Boora and Evandros Kaklamanos from that year's environment committee state that the project was started in 2011 when the EC members noticed that the parking lot in the back of the school remained unused. As explained by one dedicated EC member Leela Schmash, she said "The heat island effect is what happens when sunlight reflects off of concrete (roads, rooftops, etc.): it becomes trapped between the ground and the ozone layer, contributing to global warming and climate change. Creating more green spaces in urban areas helps to reduce the consequences of this phenomenon."
It took many years for the parking lot to be transformed into a garden, but thanks to the students before us we are now able to grow and harvest our own flowers, herbs, berries and vegetables every year.
